Continue reading »]]> The Ursulines gathered to celebrate the vigil of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and to celebrate jubilees of three sisters, 75 years and 60 years of faithful service, years of a love relationship with God.

In our celebration we reflected on those super hero movies and the “aha” moments when they came to realize their call to greatness and their super human gifts for good. For Mary, the patron of our country, her life was a series of highly irregular episodes to say the least. Annunciations and prophecies! Did Mary ever get a good night’s sleep ?

A miracle birth and a Divine Son. Shepherds and kings tramping mud into the delivery room! Not exactly an “aha” moment! And Joseph?

The most astonishing thing about Mary wasn’t the prophecies, the fidelity to a strange marriage contract, no, it was this – Mary chose to do what God asked! This is rare! God’s will is so mysterious. Yet Mary trusted and that is the essence of what it means to love.

And so, how do we make ourselves available to God’s will and then doing it?  Those will be our “aha” moments.

Continue reading »]]> May 2nd 2010 was the day;

We had several of St. Edward youth gather for “Things beginning with ‘M’” spring meeting.  Tony, Val, Hanna, Logan, Ryan & Dominic participated.

We started the meeting by taking part in the May Crowning ceremony.

Afterwards we went to Room ‘B’ for pizza and some discussion of the May events: Mother’s Day, May Crowning, May Pole, Messiah, Mary & Marriage.

To wrap up the meeting we all made wrist rosary with beads and stretchy string (or ribbon).  The youth enjoyed the challenge and fun of beading and ended up with a great gift to give to their own mother next weekend – made by their own hands.  Domonic found that he has some latent skill in jewerly making and Tony finally found something he wasn’t so good at (his words, not mine).
